Our name

Why “Wood, Hay, Stubble”?

Writing to the church in Corinth, the Apostle Paul describes building on the one foundation, which is Jesus Christ. Some build with gold, silver, and precious stones; others with wood, hay, and straw. In the end, fire tests each one’s work — what is lasting endures, and what is perishable burns away.

“If anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw — each one’s work will become manifest … because it will be revealed by fire.” 1 Corinthians 3:12–13

We took our name from the perishable materials on purpose. It is a daily reminder to give ourselves to the work that outlasts us — the gospel, the church, and the people in whom it takes root.
